Learn More About Purchasing the Measuring Wheels
Wheel Size
There are different sizes you will find the wheels on the market. For example, if you buy small wheels, you will see that they are compact and has the ability to store in a better way. Small wheels are good for flooring and walls. For each meter or yard, you measure, these will rotate a number of times as compared to larger wheels.
On the other hand, for outdoor utility, we recommend you to go for larger wheels, which are generally better in such scenarios. Larger measuring wheels rotate slower and have less wear. They go better on rough surfaces.
Trigger Brake
If you want to measure an uneven surface at an outdoor location, you need to find a measuring wheel that comes with a trigger brake. It is an important feature. In addition, if you go – without a brake – over a curb, the wheel would keep spinning and give you wrong measurements.
So, with a trigger brake, you can pull the trigger to stop the wheel. This is useful when you go over curbs and/or lift the wheel for different reasons while measuring. When you complete, it will hold the measurement in place. The purpose is to prevent any accidental changes until you have a proper record for it.
Kickstand
A kickstand is another useful feature, which allows you not to bend over for picking up the wheel between uses. A kickstand also helps in protecting the wheel – and keeps it from falling over. You will see that kickstands can be permanent mount or folding.
Counters
There are many types of counters such as odometer wheel counters, which are analog as well as digital counters. Despite the type of counter, this feature is useful for counting in inches and feet, 10ths and feet, as well as centimeters and meters. There are some counters, which give variable numbers and the maximum measured distance. Each counter you find has a reset button.
Storage
There are many measuring wheels, which fold for storage and/or have telescoping handles. Today, on the market, you will find some measuring wheels that come with bags, cases, or backpacks that protect them. Storage bags are vital if you work in harsh conditions or dirty environment. Actually, if you don’t want the mud or dust to get in the measuring wheel, you need a good storage bag.
Material
The majority of measuring wheels are made of different or mixed materials. Primarily, the material used by manufacturers is plastic. Some companies use metals or mix materials for making measuring wheels.
The important thing you need to know is that a plastic wheel is must lighter in weight and is less subject to corrosion and rust. In contrast, a metal wheel is a little heavier – however, it stays in contact with the ground in a better way.
