Best Cast Iron Spatulas of 2026

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What kind of spatula do you use for cast iron?

Stainless steel is the most common type of spatula used in cast iron cookware. It is strong, durable, and lightweight. Silicone spatulas are also a good option when cooking in cast iron skillets or pans. Even though silicone is a soft material, it won't melt on high heat or cause any damage to the cooking surface.

2. Can you use metal spatulas on cast iron?

Can you use metal spatulas on cast iron? Yes, but with a couple caveat. Ideally, you should always season your cast iron before you use it, but if you're using brand-new, unseasoned cast iron or a pan that you've only just seasoned, you should use gentle silicone or bamboo cooking utensils.

3. What kind of utensils do you use on cast iron?

Myth: You can't use metal utensils on cast iron cookware. Fact: Cast iron is the most durable metal you'll ever cook with. That means any utensil is welcome — silicone, wooden, and even metal.

4. Will metal utensils scratch cast iron?

Surprisingly: no. It's perfectly fine to use metal utensils on plain cast-iron pans, says Keno; the “nonstick” surface created by seasoning is very resilient (the exception is enameled cast iron; metal can scratch its porcelain coating, according to the cast-iron manufacturer Lodge).
