A Buyer's Guide to Electric Impact Wrenches
As always, buying an electric impact wrench will depend on the task to be carried out, however, these are some key points that are important to consider:
Ergonomics
The electric impact wrench is often used for long periods or in situations where a good grip makes all the difference. Also, weight is key and that is linked to the materials and components, which brings us to the next point.
Durability
Here the quality and composition of the materials prevail. The most durable ones usually have an aluminum body with some alloy to combine resistance with low weight.
Fit
This factor varies greatly according to the task to be performed, the most common being 1/2 inches or 3/4 inches socket. In any case, some accessories allow you to adapt the insert to the different measurements you want to work with.
Connection
This is a key point that relates directly to the hose- compressor link. In different countries there are different inserts, for our part, we always recommend using quick couplings which simplifies the exchange between the different tools.
Leakage
As it is a tool that works with electricity, the flow enters from the compressor, circulates to function the impact wrench and, logically, in the end, it must be expelled. We are aware of the design.
We have not taken into account the direction of the exhaust and have directed it to the body, or even towards the face. During use, it not only becomes annoying but also dangerous. It is recommended to choose an exhaust that tends downward or starts from the lower end.
Force or torque regulation
When using a manual wrench, the user’s force is what determines the torque depending on the application and in many cases the specifications that correspond to the different nuts, bolts or bolts.
It can be it is necessary to regulate the torque. It may seem, at first glance, a minor detail, however, it is key to doing a good job. Also, the proper torque prevents breakage and damage to the part and the tool. In this sense, it is best to use an electric impact wrench.
Although electric wrenches have been replacing them with their wireless pairs, many manufacturers offer wired electric impact wrenches. These provide similar performance to similar size pneumatic impact wrenches but are only available in very limited sizes.
The body of an electric impact wrench is slightly larger than that of a comparable pneumatic impact wrench. This is required by the electric motor, which must be larger than a corresponding air motor of the same force. However, except in narrow work areas, they are roughly equivalent in comfort.
