Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is an alternative to a door stop?

An alternative to a door stop is a door chock. While not technically a door stopper, door chocks can be placed on a door hinge to prevent the door from slamming shut and provide a temporary solution for holding doors open.

2. What are the disadvantages of magnetic door locks?

One disadvantage of magnetic door locks is that they require a constant power supply. In the event of a power outage, magnetic locks lose power, which can pose a security risk as the door may become operable. It is important to have backup power and additional security measures in place when using magnetic door locks.

3. How long do magnetic latches last?

Magnetic latches are known for their durability and can last for many years or even decades without losing their magnetism. While magnets can eventually lose their magnetism over time, it is a gradual process that takes a significant amount of time.

4. How secure are magnetic door locks?

Magnetic door locks are generally strong and secure. However, they may be more susceptible to tampering compared to other lock options due to their reliance on a power supply. To ensure security, it is recommended to have backup power and additional surveillance measures in place when using magnetic door locks.

5. How do you stop a door without a stopper?

If you don't have a door stopper, you can use a wooden, plastic, or rubber wedge to jam the door shut. Simply place the wedge in the gap between the floor and the door, kicking it in until it becomes immovable. Alternatively, you can create a makeshift doorstop using household items like a shoe or cardboard box.

6. How do I stop my door from hitting the wall?

To prevent your door from hitting the wall and causing damage, you can use door stops. These stops are usually fixed to the skirting board and are available in various materials and sizes to match your home decor. By placing a door stop, you can protect your walls and skirting boards from being damaged by the door.
