Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Are coated guitar strings any good?

As with everything in life, coated guitar strings have their benefits and their drawbacks. The main benefit of them is they last longer than their uncoated counterparts. This is because they are no longer able to build up the same amount of dirt and grime as quickly and they are resistant to corroding.

2. What are coated acoustic strings?

What exactly is a coated guitar string? It is a guitar (or bass) string that has been treated with a polymer coating. The polymer is often a Teflon PFT (Polytetrafluoroethylene).

3. Do coated strings sound better?

Well, objectively, sound of coated strings is not better. That's because coated strings are heavier, because of a polymer layer. String mass directly affects tonal frequency of the string.

4. Do coated guitar strings reduce fret wear?

So yes, coated strings reduce fret wear on the wound strings. The plain strings, however, are much harder on frets since steel is harder than bronze.
