[THE ORIGINAL CLAY WEDGING BOARD] - Penguin Pottery designed the original MDF clayboard clay wedging board back in 2020. Today, it is a must-have pottery tool in the pottery tools equipment and supplies world. Manufactured in the USA from water-resistant renewable wood sources using Medex MDF, the highest-quality board material widely used in the ceramics industry (we do not use less water-resistant Masonite board or fiberboard as other brands).
[EASY TO CARRY AND USE] - We designed our clay board with a built-in handle to make it super easy to carry. Unlike other brands, our board has rounded edges, including the handle! We care about your experience so we make our board easy on your hands. We also do not add a canvas found in canvas covered board for clay to prevent accumulation of dry clay dust, a common problem with other mud tools.
[DURABLE AND STRONG] - Our clay boards are made with 3/8" Medex MDF on purpose, because it's the perfect thickness for strength and durability, without making it too heavy to carry. It also prevents clay from sticking, and works better than pottery plaster, clay mat, and polymer clay mat. Clay texture sheets, clay slab roller, pottery forms, pottery turntable, and pottery molds for clay can be placed on top. We also make our ceramic bats with Medex MDF. Check them out!
[LIFETIME WARRANTY] - Our boards will last a very long time, and if you have any issues, we will give you a refund or replace your board - no questions asked! All Penguin Pottery products are backed by our Lifetime Warranty. See warranty & support section for more information.

Penguin Pottery - Potter's Water - Increases Strength of Clay Bindings - Prevents Cracks and Flaws in Handmade Pottery

HELPS BOND CLAY: Penguin Pottery Potter's Water, sometimes referred to as magic water, is useful when you need to attach one piece of clay to another. For instance, it is used to attach handles, prevent cracking and enhance bonding strength at clay attachment points.
ATTACH HANDLES: handles can be challenging because either the pot of the handle might be slightly drier than the other, creating cracks or detachment. Potter's Water helps establish a strong bond when attaching handles.
COIL BUILDING: when handbuilding clay pots using rolled coils, you can use Potter's Water to avoid having to press and blend the coils together. Potter's Water helps you maintain the distinct coil appearance without using excessive pressure, and enhances the bond between the coils.
ATTACHED CLAY SLABS: slabs of clay are prone to cracking at the seams during drying or firing. By using Potter's Water instead of regular water or slip, you can achieve a stronger bond and prevent these cracks.

Penguin Pottery - Clear Glaze - Mid Fire Glaze, High Fire Glaze, Cone 5-6 for Mid Fire Clay, High Fire Clay - Ceramic Glaze Pottery (1 Pint | 16 oz | 473 ml)

Our glazes made in the USA by expert potters. They are lead-free, non-toxic and food safe (when properly fired and tested). Our mid fire glazes offer similar color ranges to our low fire glazes, but also introduce interesting effects and tonality not available in low fire glazes when fired in a pottery kiln at cone 5 or cone 6. Sometimes glaze contents will settle. That's normal! Ceramic glazes need to be fully mixed to ensure smooth application. We recommend mixing for at least 1-2 minutes.
Pottery glaze must be fired in a pottery kiln at the correct temperature. Do not fired in a kitchen oven. Your ceramic kiln must be temperature calibrated to confirm it is firing at the target temperature / cone. Ceramic glazes are classified according to a temperature range ("cone") in three general groups: "low-fire," "mid-fire," and "high-fire." Over-firing will damage the piece and possibly the kiln. Under-firing will give you ugly results that will not look like the swatch image.
Glazes will react differently (and look different) depending on several factors, including: (a) the temperature at which they're fired: even small changes in temperature can lead to different outcomes; (b) the clay body on which the glaze is applied: the same glaze will look different if applied to a darker vs. lighter clay; (c) the speed at which your kiln reaches the target temperature; and (d) how much oxygen is in the kiln's atmosphere while firing. Test before applying.
You can apply glazes either by (a) dipping your bisqued piece into the glaze or (b) brushing it on. Our glazes are ready to apply with a brush. If you're looking to dip, we recommend applying a dispersing agent like Darvan.
[LIFETIME WARRANTY] - All Penguin Pottery products are backed by our Lifetime Warranty. if you have any issues, we will give you a refund or replace your product - no questions asked! See warranty & support section for more information.

Penguin Pottery - Raku Series Variety Set #1 - Raku Fire in Raku Kiln - Includes 8 4oz Jars

[VARIETY SET]: Our Raku Series Variety Set allows you to test some of our favorite Raku glazes. It includes a comprehensive collection that includes seven 4 fl oz jars of glazes in various captivating colors, along with a 4 fl oz jar of wax resist.
[COLORS]: Crackle Clear; Verigris; Penny 4UR Thoughts; Solar Flare; Emerald Flame; Dragon Fire; Rainbow. Plus a jar of our wax resist.
[RAKU vs TRADITIONAL GLAZES]: Raku glazes create unpredictable, varied finishes, capturing the dynamic interplay of fire and smoke. While standard ceramic glazes are formulated for consistent results and higher firing temperatures, Raku glazes embrace spontaneity. They respond to the flames and smoke of the Raku process, resulting in unique patterns and colors on every piece, whereas traditional ceramic glazes aim for uniformity and predictability.
[RAKU FIRING]: Pottery glaze must be fired in a pottery kiln at the correct temperature. Do not fired in a kitchen oven. Unlike typical glazes, Raku glazes are fired at a lower temperature, rapidly heated, and then removed from the kiln while still glowing hot. The piece is then subjected to post-firing reduction, typically in containers with combustible materials, to yield its distinct look.
[HISTORY OF RAKU]: Originating in 16th-century Japan, Raku pottery was first produced to serve the Japanese tea ceremony. The word "Raku" means "pleasure" or "enjoyment", and the process was favored by Zen Buddhist masters for its spontaneous results, embodying the Zen ideals of simplicity and directness.

Penguin Pottery - Sodium Silicate Solution - Deflocculant - 16 oz

Sodium silicate can be used in several ceramic applications: (a) it is used to prevent lumping when slip casting; (b) it can be used to create a crackled texture on ceramic surfaces; and (c) it also reduces viscosity and water needs in pottery and ceramics.
Using it as a Deffloculant: Penguin Pottery's Sodium Silicate Solution is used to deflocculate (ie. prevent lumping) casting slips. Our sodium silicate causes the particles of clay to repel one another and remain suspended. Please note that, over time, plaster will absorb the solution and will deteriorate / erode.
Using it to Achieve a Crackled Surface: If you want to achieve a super-interesting crackled clay surface, you can apply Penguin Pottery sodium silicate to your piece right after you finish throwing (before you fire it). Just apply with a brush, wait until it dries, and the place your hands inside the piece and expand the sides.
This solution is water-soluble and is made with soda and silica. Please note that sodium silicate will be damaged if frozen (eg. shipping during winter months)

Penguin Pottery - 16 oz Liquid Kiln Wash - Ready to Use - No Need to Mix - Prevent Glaze from Sticking to Kiln Shelves

Kiln wash is a protective layer that is applied to your kiln shelves to prevent glazed pieces from sticking while firing.
Your glaze may run, your pot may tip over, or you may over-fire the clay. This makes kiln wash an important preventative measure for all glaze firings.
How to Use: apply several thin coats to the top layer of your shelves, letting it dry thoroughly in between each coat.
Use a brush, roller, or even a sprayer.
Do not apply to fiber-based or silicon carbide shelves.

Penguin Pottery Glazes - CMC Gum Solution - Add to Ceramic Glazes to Improve Brushability - 16oz

Penguin Pottery Gum Solution slows down glaze drying time and prevents cracking.
Apply to glazes to improve their brushability and achieve a more even application.
You can also apply our Gum Solution to dried up glazes by diluting them with water first, then adding our Gum Solution (as needed) to improve their brushability.
Spraying diluted gum solution over underglaze crayons (prior to glazing) will also prevent the underglaze from smearing while the glaze is applied on top.
Gum Solution is non-toxic. Do not ingest or use in food preparation. Can be thinned with water to achieve desired viscosity.
The color of our Gum Solution will NOT affect the color of your glazes - it is designed to burn off when firing.
