Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Which is harder cross stitch or needlepoint?

Needlepoint Versus Cross-Stitch You can find many similarities and differences between cross-stitch and needlepoint. Though they are both types of hand embroidery, needlepoint is a much more complicated art form. Cross-stitch is often a beginners' craft on the way to needlepoint.

2. What is the difference between cross stitch and needlepoint?

Needlepoint is a form of embroidery which is traditionally stitched with wool through a stiff open-weave canvas (meaning there are more holes than fabric) called “Mono Canvas.” Cross stitch is also a form of embroidery but is stitched on an open-and-even weave fabric (meaning equal hole and fabric) called “Aida” .

3. What is the most commonly used stitch in needlepoint?

The basketweave tent stitch is one of the most often used, and basic needlepoint stitches. It is a member of the tent stitch family and is worked over a single intersection in diagonal rows up and down the needlepoint canvas.

4. What is the easiest needlepoint stitch?

Continental Half Cross Stitch I'm not sure, but it's what I used to stitch for the first five years of my needlepoint career so we're going with it. It's also what I suggest to people when they are first learning needlepoint, as (I think) it's the easiest stitch.
