The car's compressor does more than just cool the air before it passed through the car. You can use the a/c compressor while controlling the heat setting of the car to control the climate within. Doing so will help dehumidify the air, reducing fogged up windows.

2. Does the AC use the heater core?

Together, the two units—and everything that goes along with them—are known as the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Your car's HVAC system is very similar in that the A/C and heater are mostly separate from one another. The A/C uses refrigerant, while the heater uses hot engine coolant.

3. What is the ideal temperature for car AC?

To see if your A/C system is performing, measure the outlet temperature at the vent with an accurate thermometer. Drive the car with the A/C on "max". With temperatures in the 70's to 80's Fahrenheit the outlet temperature should be around 35 to 48 degrees.
